Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, will open training camp this weekend in Abuja as part of preparations for upcoming international friendlies against Cape Verde.

 

While the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is yet to confirm the exact venue and dates for the matches, officials disclosed that the fixtures will take place during the next FIFA international window for women’s football.

 

The friendly games are expected to provide the technical crew an opportunity to assess players and fine-tune strategies ahead of major continental assignments.

 

The Super Falcons were last in action during the previous international break, when they faced Cameroon in Yaoundé in a series of preparatory matches.

 

The upcoming fixtures form part of Nigeria’s build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which has been rescheduled to July after its initial postponement from March.

 

This year’s WAFCON carries added significance, as it will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup scheduled to be held in Brazil.

 

With expectations high, the Super Falcons will be aiming to maintain their dominance on the continent while securing qualification for the global showpiece.
