A Non Governmental Organization, Godiya Women Education and Sustainable Development Initiative and Public Awareness on Rights and Rehabilitation of Vulnerable Persons Initiative has taken its grassroots engagement to the Nigerian Correctional Service. 

The organization held a one-day capacity training for the inmates of Suleja Custodian Centre focused on emergency response and first aid treatment. 

During the training, the inmates were taught on how to attend to respond to accident victims, fracture and sprain management, breathing, circulation and bleeding control. 

Demonstrating how to attend to conscious and unconscious accident victims, the instructor, Emmanuel Avertse used life support techniques to drive home the message. 

The inmates were visibly excited having followed the training with keen interest, beaming with smiles which signaled the impact of the training on them.

said the training was born out of the vision of her organization in providing responsive supportive innovative services. 

"the Correctional centre is actually a community of his own. Here you find one of the most vulnerable people in the society. Seventy percent of those here are awaiting trial not even those who have been convicted. So what do you do with them, we need to correct them by training them, by informating them, by providing them with some form of  support"

Bar. Dibiezue  further stated "So we thought it wise to be here in Suleja because Suleja is unique, it has the male and female facility compared to Kuje. We're here in Suleja to provide support to all of them through this training.
We saw it all that it pays to know how to resuscitate any person that faints around and the inmates were happy when the training was on and they really enjoyed the session"

Public Awareness on Rights and Rehabilitation of Vulnerable Persons Initiative, Barr. Ogechi Ogu said her organization was committed to giving hope to those that seem to be hopeless.
 
"The Suleja Custodian Centre  is within the FCT Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service. This's the only place you have women as inmates within FCT, we are looking at a way of reaching out to more people"This is a good place to start. 

The Assistant Controller, in charge of Suleja Correctional Centre, Suleiman Ibrahim,  while expressing gratitude for the visit, gava assurances that the center would continue to uphold utmost discipline in relating with the inmates.

The organization offered refreshment and beverages to the inmates at the one day training.
