Popular Nigerian singer Simi has addressed a recurring misconception among her fans regarding her daughter’s name, urging the public to stop referring to the child as “Duduke.”

 

In a recent interview with media personality VJ Adams, Simi clarified that Duduke — the title of her hit 2020 single released during her pregnancy — is not her daughter’s name and, contrary to popular belief, has no actual meaning.

 

“Some people call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t mean anything,” she said. “Assuming it even means something good like blessing… but Duduke doesn’t mean anything. It’s just a beat — that’s what I meant. My heartbeat like a drum.”

 

Simi acknowledged that fans may be acting from a place of affection, especially since Duduke was a deeply emotional song connected to her journey into motherhood. However, she expressed discomfort with the name being wrongly associated with her daughter.

 

“I try not to react too much to that, but stop calling my child Duduke,” she added.

 

Simi and her husband, fellow artist Adekunle Gold, welcomed their daughter in 2020, shortly after the release of Duduke, which quickly became a beloved anthem for expectant mothers across Nigeria and beyond.

 

Despite the song’s massive success and emotional resonance, Simi’s message is clear: while the song was inspired by her pregnancy, Duduke is not her daughter’s name — and she would prefer fans respect that distinction.
