Southwest Governors Declare State Police “Can No Longer Be Delayed,” Launch New Regional Security Framework

 

As insecurity dey rise for Southwest, governors under the Southwest Governors’ Forum don talk say creation of State Police no fit wait again. Dem announce new regional security plans wey go strengthen protection across all six states.

 

The meeting happen for Executive Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ibadan, on Monday, hosted by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. For the meeting, the governors discuss security, economy, agriculture and plans to boost regional cooperation.

 

Chairman of the Forum and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, read the communiqué on behalf of the group.

 

Governors wey attend include:

• Dapo Abiodun (Ogun)

• Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti)

• Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo)

• Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos)

• Prince Kola Adewusi, representing Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke

• Seyi Makinde (Oyo), the host

 

The Forum hail President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recent security interventions and rescue operations, especially for Kebbi, Niger and Kwara states.

 

Key Decisions From the Meeting

 

The governors agree on major steps to tighten regional security:

 

1. South West Security Fund (SWSF)

Dem approve creation of the SWSF under the DAWN Commission.

The fund go dey managed by Special Advisers on Security from all six states, and dem go meet every month to review security issues.

 

2. Unified Digital Intelligence Platform

The six states—Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti—don adopt one digital system for real-time intelligence sharing.

This platform go help with fast exchange of:

• Threat alerts

• Incident reports

• Emergency coordination

• Joint rapid response

 

3. Forest Security

The governors raise alarm over how criminals don dey enter forests across the region.

Dem urge the Federal Government to:

• Boost forest surveillance

• Support deployment of Forest Guards

• Help reclaim forest belts from criminal groups

 

The Forum emphasize say dem dey fully committed to secure the Southwest and protect residents from rising threats.
