The Joint Action Committee of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have called on the Federal Government to attend to their demands as a matter of urgency.
The Union members made their feelings known on Thursday, 9th October, 2025 during a peaceful protest held at the Awka Campus of the University led by the association leaders, Comrade Anthonia Chukwudi and Comrade Chukwugozie Ikegulu from the Multipurpose Hall across different strategic locations in the institution.
In a press briefing, the Union leaders highlighted their five demands as Unjust disbursement of the N50 Billion Earned Allowance; Immediate renegotiation of the 2009 FGN and NASU/SSANU agreements; Payment of outstanding two (2) months salaries; Payment of arrears of 25 percent/35 percent salary arrears and the payment of third party deductions of the two months salaries (May and June 2022).
The SSANU UNIZIK Chairperson, Comrade Anthonia Chukwudi stated that the peaceful protest embarked upon by the JAC is to demand for better welfare so as to discharge their duties diligently and effectively without any form of rancour and dissatisfaction.
The union leader charged the Federal Government to address their demands urgently to avert any form of industrial action.
On his part, NASU UNIZIK Chairperson, Comrade Chukwugozie Ikegulu informed that both unions have enumerated their demands and had earlier hold sensitization meeting with her members about the protest to press home their demands.
Comrade Ikegulu affirmed that non-teaching staff members are the live wire of universities in administration. The Union leader called on FG to do the needful to avert a looming industrial action.
