I have decided to discuss a very important plan of the Malam Shehu Dikko, Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC) and Honourable Bukola Olopade as Director General.
This plan is the Renewed Hope Initiative of Nigeria's Sports Economy (RHINSE). The RHINSE, I believe is in line with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Initiative. Whatever it is, I am interested in the vision of the leadership of the National Sports Commission towards the development of the Sports Economy. What quickly comes to mind is the remuneration of athletes by Nigerian Clubs comparatively with some countries in Africa. I don't want to make reference to North Africa or South African Clubs. Let me take an example from Tanzania. Some footballers in Tanzania earn Five Thousand dollars ($5,000) wage monthly. Its equivalence in Nigerian Naira is approximately Six Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Naira (N6.7M) only. How much is the remuneration of the highest paid player in Nigeria? A big question begging for answer. Our players conveniently seek greener pastures in other African countries and lower leagues in Europe and Asia. It is not surprising that our representatives in the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup perform below expectation. Hon. Kunle Soname corroborated this fact when he stated that the remuneration for players in some African countries are far higher than what players receive in Nigeria.
This clearly show the absence of a Sports Economy in Nigeria. I think the Social Services and Political Servicing Status of Sports, particularly Football in Nigeria needs to be transformed into a Sports Economy which I foresee as achievable with the National Sports Commission Renewed Hope Initiative of Nigeria's Sports Economy (RHINSE).

The Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria's Sports Economy (RHINSE) is a bold plan to transform the nation's sports industry. Led by the National Sports Commission (NSC), the initiative aims to reset Nigeria's sports ecosystem from competition-driven to developmental-driven and value-adding. The plan includes,
- *Infrastructure Development*: Revitalizing sports infrastructure across the country, including the rehabilitation of federal government stadiums, construction of mini sports centers, and development of a world-class Anti-Doping Laboratory.
- *Grassroots Development*: Fostering school sports and professional academy programs to strengthen the sector's foundation.
- *Private Sector Engagement*: Promoting private sector investment and participation in sports.
- *Institutional Repositioning*: Restructuring sports federations and strengthening the NSC to implement government policies.
- *Funding*: A capital proposal of over ₦78 billion for sports development in the 2025 budget. The 2026 sports budget estimate is above N200 billion. The highest so far since Nigeria's Independence.

The goal is to make sports a vital pillar of Nigeria's economy, contributing 3% to GDP, creating 3 million jobs, and achieving 5% of global sports talent exports.

This is a laudable initiative that deserve all the support required to translate it into reality. Does RHINSE require any legislation to make it realizable? The Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Sports MUST Champion such necessary Legislation.
On my part, I am in total support of the Renewed Hope Initiative of Nigeria's Sports Economy (RHINSE). Let it be. What about you?
