Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), disclosed on Sunday that he was briefly detained at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos upon his return from the United States.

In a post on his X handle (formerly Twitter), Sowore explained that Nigerian Immigration Service officials seized his passport, citing orders to detain him. He stated:

"I arrived in Nigeria from the USA and reached the Nigerian Immigration counter at MMIA in Lagos, only to have my passport seized. They claimed they had orders to detain me."

Sowore, also the convener of the #RevolutionNow protest, expressed his expectation of such treatment, attributing it to the "fascist" regime's clampdown on dissent. He urged citizens to take action in case of a prolonged detention, saying:

"In case this becomes another prolonged and protracted detention, I urge our citizens to ensure they ALL..."
