Obinna Ogba, a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria literarily went on Cloud 9 after young NNL side, Abakaliki FC brought down the ego and pride of Enyimba in Wednesday's Federation Cup Round of 16 match at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

Abakaliki FC won the crunchy tie in emphatic fashion 2-0 with goals from Chukwudi Okoro and Eni Daniel on either half of the gritty contest.

The shock result now sets up a quarter final clash between Abakaliki FC and Nasarawa United.

Senator Ogba, who is also Chairman of Ebonyi State Football Association, could not hide his feelings after the match.

"I'm happy, exceptionally so because Enyimba thought they would just stroll over us.

"This match was originally scheduled for Enugu but they protested. Why they weren't comfortable with Enugu, I don't know.

"Later, it was moved to Awka, yet they would have none of that. And now here we're. Football is played on the pitch, not outside of it.

"This is a monumental achievement. I'm happy. The people of Ebonyi State are happy and the government is happy too", Ogba, a former referee and ex Chairman of Senate Committee on Sports said.

Abakaliki FC will face another NPFL side, Nasarawa United and Ogba sounded loud and clear that they are holding their heads high in the tournament, taking the games as they come without fear.

"This team is bare four months old after it was formed in December 2024. And though we haven't fated pretty well in the NNL league, I think we've not fared badly in the Federation Cup having beaten teams like Yobe Stars, Katsina United and now Enyimba. 

"So we don't need to lose our heads because we're going to play Nasarawa United. We'll need to go back home and prepare for the game hoping to give it our best", Ogba concluded.
