This year's IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, Ladies Close Golf Championship was teed off Thursday in Abuja, with ladies all dresses in white T-shirts and Trousers.

The event which is been organized by the Lady Section of the Club is the 23rd edition as 200 Amateur Golfers battle for honours as well as setting their eyes on the prestigious trophy which was won last year by Racheal Danjuma.

While teed off the event despite the evening showers, a former Senate member who represented Abia Central Senatorial District in the red chamber from 2007 to 2015, Senator Nkechi Justina Nwaogu charged the participants to compete without rancour.

"Is the close for annual activities for ladies in IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja. So we are closing the activities for ladies for the year.
We have had various programmes this year. We have had programme for children, kitty, also workshop on the breast cancer. All for the ladies". She said.

Senator Nkechi Nwaogu who is also playing as Veteran, commended the lady Captain and other ladies in the club for their role in developing golf in the country.

The Club Vice Captain, Ibrahim Babayo who represented the Captain at the tee off ceremony described this year's event as significant.

" this is an annual event that we normally hold for our women folks. Men also actively participating in it. It is tournament where our mothers, daughters and sisters display their skills. Is part of the development of this game that the IBB International Golf and Country Club is actively participating in coordinating the game of golf in Nigeria".

 He said the ultimate aim of the club is to partner with FCT to make Abuja a golfing destination. 

For the Lady Captain, Folashade Olateju, who commended the ladies, promised an exiting two days of burning the course.

She said this event  will determine the lady champion of the club for the year and a prelude to the opens championship where all golfers will participate. 

While the Guest men and ladies will play only on Friday, the handicap one to Fifty-four ladies will battle for two days to determine the winner of the Prestigious trophy .

The Lady Captain was supported at the ceremonial tee off by her husband,  Debo Olateju, who was the Past Captain of the club.
