Suspended Senator from Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, don talk say she wan return go Senate this week, after one Federal High Court judgement talk say her suspension too long.

 

Dem suspend Akpoti-Uduaghan on March 6, 2025, for six months. Dem say na because of “serious misconduct” wey she do. Di suspension happen after she get wahala with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Later, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions talk say she suppose face punishment.

 

But Natasha no gree, she carry the matter go court. She talk say di suspension no just affect her rights, but also the rights of the people wey vote for her. Last Friday, Justice Binta Nyako talk say yes, Senate fit punish their members, but say the six-month suspension too much.

 

Di judge explain say lawmakers suppose dey sit for at least 181 days every year, and Natasha suspension almost cover the whole session. So her people no get anybody represent them. The judge no cancel the Senate’s power, but she talk say the time of the punishment no balance.

 

Still, court also talk say Natasha do bad when she post one “funny apology” to Senate President Akpabio for her Facebook. Court say na contempt of court, and dem fine her ₦5 million for breaking court order.

 

After the ruling, Natasha talk to her supporters:

 

“Thank una well well for all the support. I happy say we win today. By God’s grace, I go return to Senate on Tuesday.”

 

But the Senate don talk say dem no go do anything yet until dem see the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgement.

 

Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, talk say the Senate lawyers dey court when the judge talk, but dem never get the full judgement for paper.

 

“Because of that, we don apply to get the CTC of the judgement. We wan review am well before we take any action,” Adaramodu talk for official statement for Abuja.

 

He also talk say dem never sure whether court really cancel the suspension, so nobody suppose rush go do anything until the official paper come out.

 

“Until we receive and study the CTC, Senate no go take any step wey fit affect our legal standing,” the statement talk. “We go follow due process and do everything based on wetin the constitution talk.”

 

As the case still dey hot, people don begin talk again about how Senate dey use power, how dem suppose discipline members, and how democracy suppose really work make people no lose their voice for National Assembly.
