Salim Fago Lawal Shines Bright in Croatia as His Brace Sinks Dinamo Zagreb
Former Flying Eagles striker Salim Fago Lawal continued his impressive form in Europe, netting a stunning brace to hand NK Istra a memorable 2–1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in a Croatian top-flight league clash on Sunday evening.
Lawal, who has been in scintillating form this season, was the star of the night as his early strikes proved decisive for Istra against one of the most formidable sides in Croatian football.
The 22-year-old forward opened the scoring in the 10th minute, finishing off a well-worked move to the delight of the home supporters. His goal set the tone for a confident Istra side determined to upset their more illustrious opponents.
Barely 20 minutes later, Lawal struck again in the 32nd minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to double the advantage for Istra. His sharp instincts and composure in front of goal left Dinamo’s defence chasing shadows as the hosts went into the break with a two-goal cushion.
The visitors came out stronger in the second half, mounting sustained pressure in search of a comeback. Despite several close attempts, Dinamo Zagreb only managed a consolation goal in the 81st minute, courtesy of Monsef Bakrar, as Istra held firm to secure all three points.
It was a well-deserved victory and another statement performance from Lawal, who now boasts five goals and two assists this season — a total of seven goal contributions.
The former Mavlon FC of Lagos striker has continued to turn heads with his consistency, work rate, and eye for goal, fueling talks of a potential Super Eagles call-up in the near future.
With performances like this, Salim Fago Lawal is fast proving that he is ready for the big stage — and Nigeria’s senior national team selectors will no doubt be watching closely.
