Defending champions Rivers Hoopers emerged victorious in the Atlantic Conference playoff, edging out arch-rivals Hoops N' Read 80-78 in a nail-biting contest at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

The five-time NBBF Men's Premier League winners maintained their unbeaten streak, but not without a fierce challenge from the Lagos-based team. Hoops N' Read pushed Rivers Hoopers to the limit, trailing by just one point for most of the game.

Rivers Hoopers dominated the first quarter 15-4, but Hoops N' Read rallied to narrow the gap to 22-20. The Port Harcourt side regained momentum in the second quarter, taking a 37-33 lead.

The intense battle continued in the third quarter, with Rivers Hoopers relying on three-pointers to maintain their advantage (60-53). Despite a valiant effort from Hoops N' Read in the final 10 minutes, Rivers Hoopers secured the win.

In a post match interview, Rivers Hoopers' Head Coach Ogoh Odaudu praised Hoops N' Read's organization and exceptional players. "We played against one of the best teams in the tournament... We didn't play our best today, but a win is all that matters."

Coach Odaudu attributed the team's success to the support of the Rivers State Government. "We've never had it so good... The Governor has boosted the team's morale with cash gifts."

Rivers Hoopers' focus now shifts to the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in Kigali. "Everybody wants to win the Final 8 and qualify for BAL. The unbeaten streak is a lot of motivation for the boys," Coach Odaudu emphasized.

Hoops N' Read's Head Coach Victor Mensah vowed to regroup and prepare for the Final 8. "The defeat is firmly behind us... We're looking forward to the next challenge."

The thrilling matchup set the stage for an exciting Final 8, where Rivers Hoopers will face stiff competition in their quest to return to the BAL.
