Rinsola Babajide is over the moon after reuniting with former England teammate Ashleigh Plumptre at the Super Falcons.

The UDG Tenerife forward with a magical left foot played alongside Plumptre at all age-grade levels for their country of birth, England, before they both switched their allegiance to Nigeria.

Plumptre made the switch in 2022, has made 15 appearances for the Super Falcons, and was a key member of the team at the last edition of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco and the FIFA Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

Rinsola made the switch in 2023, received her first call-up in October 2023, and made her debut on October 25, 2023, starting in a 1-1 draw with Ethiopia during 2024 Olympic qualifying.

Rinsola joined the fold while Plumptre was observing a break, probably occasioned by her switch from Leicester City to the Saudi Arabian club, where she has scored seven goals in 10 matches.

Both players reunited after Plumptre returned to the team for the two-legged 2024 Olympics qualifying fixture against Cameroon, and they played together after a long time in the barren first leg on Saturday in Douala, where Nigeria had three goals inexplicably disallowed by the referee.

Rinsola shared her delight at reuniting with Plumptre in a post on her Instagram account on Sunday, alongside the picture above, which portrays their happiness.

Rinsola and Plumptre have a lot in common, football-wise. They had played all their club football in England prior to seeking greener pastures in Spain and Saudi Arabia, respectively.

Born in Leicester, Plumptre distinguished herself in the colours of Notts County and Leicester City, playing at LA Galaxy OC in between, while Rinsola, who was born in London, plied her trade with Crystal Palace, Millwall Lionesses, Watford, Liverpool, and Brighton & Hove Albion before playing the 2022-2023 season at Real Betis, where she scored nine goals in 38 matches.
