Remo Stars Ladies Win 2024 Sheroes Cup in Thrilling Penalty Shootout
Debutants Remo Stars Ladies have emerged champions of the 2024 Sheroes Cup, defeating Abia Angels 6-4 in a penalty shootout at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja.
Abia Angels took the lead in the 11th minute through Ekozie Dikachi's wonderful goal, which they held onto until the end of the first half.
However, Remo Stars Ladies came out strong in the second half, with Kehinde Deborah equalizing for the team in the 46th minute, forcing the match into a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Remo Stars Ladies held their nerve to emerge victorious, winning 6-4.
Earlier in the day, Naija Ratels defeated Bayelsa Queens 5-4 in a penalty shootout to claim third place.
Individual awards were also presented, with Remo Stars Ladies' Head Coach, Wemimo Mathew, being named the best coach of the competition. Abia Angels' striker, Lucky Mary, was awarded the Most Valuable Player, while Naija Ratels' striker, Ziporah Ziperrekheke, emerged as the Highest Goal Scorer.
Honey Badgers FC won the Fair Play trophy, and Remo Stars' goalkeeper, Adjei Charlotte, won the Best Goalkeeper Award.
