Captain of Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles team, Nduka Junior, has praised the country’s recent victories in women’s sports, describing the achievements as a “proud moment for Nigeria” and a strong signal of the nation’s growing presence in African sports.

Speaking on the sidelines of a training session with the CHAN Eagles, Nduka commended the Super Falcons for winning the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and the D’Tigress for clinching their fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title.

“Our women’s football team won WAFCON, and our women’s basketball team claimed the title – a remarkable achievement for the country,” Nduka said.

He noted that the victories are not only significant milestones for Nigerian women in sports but also serve as motivation for all national teams.

“We aim to build on this momentum. The women have shown what’s possible with hard work, discipline, and unity. It’s now our turn to match their efforts and bring more glory to the country.”

The CHAN Eagles, made up of players from Nigeria’s domestic league, are currently preparing for their next international engagement, with hopes of qualifying for the 2026 African Nations Championship.

Nduka also called for increased investment and support for local players, noting that the recent triumphs highlight the need to empower both male and female athletes at all levels.

“These wins are not just trophies; they are proof that Nigeria has world-class talent across the board. We just need the right backing.”

Nduka’s comments come as sports enthusiasts across the country continue to celebrate Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s competitions, with hopes rising for even more success on the global stage.
