President FA Cup Finals: NNL Chairman George Aluo Commends Abakiliki FC’s Gallant Performance

Chairman of the Nigeria National League (NNL), Mr. George Aluo, has lauded Abakiliki FC for their valiant display in the 2024 Federation Cup finals held on Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
Despite losing 4-2 on penalties to Kwara United after a goalless draw in regulation time, Aluo praised the Ebonyi-based club for their tactical brilliance and determination, describing their outing as one of the most impressive in recent cup final history.
“I’m highly excited with the quality of football artistry displayed by Abakiliki FC in the finals,” Aluo said. “Though they lost on penalties, they gave their opponents a real challenge and represented the NNL admirably.”
He emphasized the club’s journey to the finals as a testament to their tactical strength and resilience, notably eliminating heavyweights like Enyimba FC and Nasarawa United along the way.
Aluo also hailed Coach Ifeanyi Onyedika (MON) for his strategic guidance and leadership, noting that his influence was instrumental in the team’s strong showing.
The NNL Chairman pointed out that the continued strong performance of second-tier teams in Nigeria’s oldest football competition reflects the league’s rapid growth and competitiveness.
“Just last year, an NNL side, El-Kanemi Warriors, lifted the prestigious FA Cup by defeating Abia Warriors. Now, Abakiliki FC has reached the final and stood tall. This proves that NNL teams can compete at any level in Nigerian football.”
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to leveraging these achievements to elevate the league further:
“We shall continue to build on these successes and move the NNL to greater heights for the benefit of Nigerian football.”
