The Abuja Police Command has identified three suspects from Katsina State as the masterminds behind the explosion at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The bombing, which occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on Monday, resulted in two fatalities and several injuries.

According to FCT Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, the explosion was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) allegedly brought to the school by the suspects. Two of the men died when the device detonated on the school veranda while they were tampering with it. A third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are currently under medical care and police guard.

The FCT Bomb Squad has confirmed the nature of the device, recovering its remnants from the scene. The school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, is in police custody for questioning.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity or items to authorities via emergency hotlines.

A security source also told PRNigeria that a student carrying the IED was among those critically injured, causing chaos within the school. The students involved had recently been admitted and had resumed classes on January 3, 2025.

Authorities are continuing investigations to uncover further details about the incident.
