Plateau United Technical Adviser, Mbwas Mangut, has emphasized the importance of converting scoring opportunities, stating that when attackers take their chances in front of goal, it creates a more relaxed and confident environment for the entire team to perform well.

 

Mangut made this remark following his side’s 1-0 victory over Akwa United on Matchday 34 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), held at the New Jos Stadium.

 

While expressing satisfaction with the result, he acknowledged that they had anticipated a tough match, especially considering Akwa United’s precarious position on the league table.

 

“I’m happy with the result, though we expected a difficult game because of their position on the log — and we also needed the win to stay up there,” Coach Mbwas said.

 

He added that despite challenges this season, such as point deductions and limited home support, the team has continued to show resilience.

 

“This season has had its complications — point deductions, lack of full support at home, and more. It takes a lot of courage for players to keep pushing despite all these. Our fans want more, and it’s our determination to finish the season strong.”

 

Mangut assured fans that the team will not take any of their remaining fixtures lightly and will continue to improve with every game, aiming for a finish that will make their supporters proud.

 

On the subject of forward Vincent Temitope being heavily marked in every match, Mangut explained that it’s natural for teams to target key players. However, he believes Temitope’s presence can serve as a useful decoy.

 

“It’s normal for teams to analyze their opponents and identify strengths and weaknesses. Vincent is one of our strengths, but at times, his presence can be a distraction that creates space for others to capitalize. His composure and the way he handles the pressure is what makes him a star.”

 

Meanwhile, Akwa United coach Kennedy Boboye admitted his side underperformed and a careless error led to the goal that handed Plateau United the win.

 

“In my judgment, we didn’t play up to our standard. A silly mistake cost us that goal,” Boboye said.

 

Despite the loss, he reaffirmed his team’s commitment to fighting to avoid relegation.

 

“We’ll keep working and pushing to stay up. I congratulate Plateau United — it’s a club that means a lot to me, just like Akwa United. I’ve won the league with both of them,” he added.
