Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, has condemned the President Bola Tinubu-led administration for its extravagant spending, exacerbating the suffering of Nigerians. With 38 million people on the brink of extreme hunger, Obi criticized the government's priorities, citing examples such as:

- $100m spent on a new presidential jet
- N21bn for renovating the vice president's lodge
- N15bn for building the National Assembly clinic

Obi emphasized that the government cannot expect citizens to make sacrifices while they indulge in luxury. He urged the Federal Government to allocate its limited resources to vital areas like health, education, poverty alleviation, and security.

Nigeria, dubbed the "poverty capital of the world," faces a crisis fueled by human and food insecurity. Obi advocated for investing in agriculture to address hunger, unemployment, and inflation. He also hinted at a potential merger with other opposition parties to rescue Nigerians from hunger and insecurity ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
