Peseiro Gives Uzoho All Clear For Eagles World Cup Qualifiers Vs Lesotho, Zimbabwe Games; Says He Has Confidence In Him
BY SAB OSUJI
Super Eagles Coach Jose Paseiro may bave tacitly given Francis Uzoho the Greenwich to stand between the sticks in Nigeria's double header 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Crocodiles of Lesotho and Warriors of Zimbabwe, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
The two group C games hold, first today, 16 November 2023 against Lesotho in Uyo and 20 November in Butala, Rwanda, against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.
This follows Peseiro's declaration during Wednesday's press conference that he has confidence in Uzoho and as such has confidence to hand him the starting gloves.
The Portuguese gaffer said the Omonia FC goalkeeper was the best and deserves to be the Super Eagles 'number one' shot-stopper.
"Uzoho is our goalkeeper; Okoye, Ojo, Amas, and Adeleye are our goalkeepers. I am not stupid; I want to play the best players, but it is my confidence to play Uzoho as the number one", Peseiro shocked the media during the crowded press conference.
Super Eagles stand-in captain, Kenneth Omeruo, gleefully agreed with his coach:
"Uzoho is the best goalkeeper in the team, and we are behind him.”
Peseiro and Omeruo's declarations confirm the possibility of Uzoho starting in goal against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and other Group C matches, all things being equal.
Uzoho had been frozen out of Omonoia games for a long spell and many Nigeria football freaks are left in shock Peseiro's insistence on the lanky goalkeeper who's seen as prone to elementary errors.
