In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Oladimeji Fabiyi spoke candidly about the early political journey of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose and the pivotal support he received from party stalwarts.

 

Fabiyi revealed that it was former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who provided the ₦15 million Fayose used to launch his initial campaign, a gesture Fabiyi said was instrumental in kickstarting his political career.

 

“It was Atiku who first gave him the ₦15 million he used to embark on his campaign,” Fabiyi said, highlighting the significance of the financial assistance. He added that Fayose has consistently shown ingratitude toward those who helped him rise within the party.

 

Fabiyi also expressed concern about the current state of the PDP, citing internal crises, leadership disputes, and what he described as self-serving agendas among present-day leaders. He argued that the party has strayed from the vision of its founding members and risks further decline without urgent corrective measures.

 

“Incidents of disrespect and self-interest undermine party cohesion and threaten the PDP’s ability to present a united front in upcoming elections,” he said, specifically criticizing Fayose’s conduct toward party elders and prominent figures.

 

Despite these criticisms, Fabiyi reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, stressing his commitment to the party even as he lamented its dysfunction. He called for reforms to restore the party’s strength and ensure it continues to play a leading role in opposition politics.

 

The interview has sparked discussions among party members and political analysts about accountability, internal discipline, and the need for structural reforms within the PDP ahead of future elections.
