Anambra State FA Cup title holders, Ozalla Football Academy, made a winning start in the 2023 Remmy Uche Cup football competition following a commanding 3-1 win against Wasington FC, Onitsha.

Thursday's group opening match was held at the Modebe Secondary School football pitch with Chidera Nnadi opening the scoring 18 minutes after kick off.

Michael Chidera doubled his team's advantage in the 25th minute and continued their dominant play with enthralling crisp passes.

But Washington halved the deficit in the 33rd minute following a sweet counter attacking play when an Ozalla midfielder carelessly lost possession midway into the Washington area and Chibuzor Ekebor slipped the home into the bottom corner.

There was high sense of urgency from both sides in the second period but it was Nzube Chukwura who fetched the third goal for Ozalla Football Academy in the 75th minute.

Ikenna Osueke, Proprietor and sole financier of Ozalla FA said afterwards that he was thrilled with win.

"First, we thank God for the victory. The boys did well on the pitch against a physical side.

"We'll take the games as they come and see how it goes".

Ozalla FA will be involved in no less than five competitions and had to divide his players for the respective tournament.

They are billed to travel to Abuja this weekend for a Talent Hunt program before returning home for their next match in the Remmy Uche Tournament on November 25.
