The Government of Osun State has approved the participation of Osun Babes Football Club, the state’s female football team, in the prestigious Nigeria Women Premier League (NWFL) for the 2025/2026 season — a major milestone in the advancement of women’s sports in the state.

 

This historic approval was granted by His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, in collaboration with His Excellency, Prince Kola Adewusi, the Deputy Governor and Honourable Commissioner for Sports.

 

The decision underscores the state government’s unwavering commitment to sports development, particularly in promoting gender inclusion and providing female athletes with opportunities to excel on the national stage.

 

“This move reflects our administration’s dedication to empowering women and promoting equality in sports,” Governor Adeleke stated. “Osun Babes have continued to demonstrate passion and excellence, and we are proud to support them as they take their rightful place in the Nigeria Women Premier League.”

The Osun Babes FC, widely admired for their determination and technical quality, are poised to make a significant impact in the forthcoming NWFL season. Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi, also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to building a sustainable sports ecosystem that nurtures young talent and promotes the state’s image through athletic excellence.
