Former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to contest for a senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.

 

The reaction followed rumours circulating on social media on Saturday, April 4, 2026, claiming that the former governor was preparing to run for the Benue North-West Senatorial seat.

 

In a statement issued in Makurdi through his media aide, Terver Akase, Ortom clarified that he has no intention of seeking any elective office in 2027.

 

He described the claims as false and urged the public to disregard them.

 

According to the former governor, his current focus is on supporting democratic values, strengthening the Peoples Democratic Party, and offering guidance on leadership issues, rather than returning to active electoral politics.

 

Ortom emphasized that he has consistently made his position known in the past and has no plans to change it, warning against any misinterpretation of his stance.
