Only Tinubu Can Sack Me, Wike Tells Critics
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed growing calls for his removal from office, insisting that only President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him, has the authority to relieve him of his duties.
Wike made the remarks on Sunday during a thank-you visit to Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he told supporters that those demanding his sack were merely wasting their time.
The former Rivers State governor said his performance as FCT minister speaks for itself, adding that his contributions to national development are visible to residents of Abuja and Nigerians across the country.
“People shouldn’t disturb themselves over anyone saying I should be sacked,” Wike said.
“That decision does not lie with them. If my appointor feels I have nothing more to give, he has the right to remove me, not those shouting outside.”
Wike urged Rivers people to take pride in his stewardship at the FCT, maintaining that he has met and even exceeded expectations since assuming office.
“I am proud, the people of Obio/Akpor are proud, Rivers people are proud, and we can say boldly that we have not disappointed Nigerians,” he declared.
Reiterating earlier comments he made in Port Harcourt, the minister added, “When you are not performing, nobody bothers to talk about you.”
