The Ondo State Government don sanction two principals of public secondary schools for collecting illegal money and unapproved items from students, against government directive.

 

The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, reveal this tori on Tuesday for Akure while e dey answer journalists’ questions.

 

Even though the commissioner no talk the names of the two principals, he confirm say them don collect fees wey pass wetin government approve, and dem start to dey demand money even before new school term resume.

 

“We don sanction two principals in the last few days. Dem dey collect illegal money from students, and even before school resume, dem don begin ask students for money,” Prof. Ajibefun talk.

The action come after parents report the matter to the Ministry of Education say some school heads dey demand unauthorized levies from their children.

 

The commissioner say the two principals admit the offence after the ministry confront them with evidence from concerned parents.

 

“We summon them come ministry, and after dem see the evidence, dem no fit deny. We don query them, and punishment go follow. This one na warning say this administration no dey joke,” he add.

Prof. Ajibefun use the opportunity warn other school heads say government no go tolerate extortion again for any public school, and say those wey break the rule go face disciplinary action.

 

He urge parents make dem continue to report any illegal collections for their children’s schools so that the ministry fit take quick action.

 

“We dey serious with this new era of accountability. Every Kobo wey parent pay must be according to what government approve. No more backdoor collections,” he warn.

 

The state government say e go continue to monitor schools closely to make sure education remain accessible and affordable for all students in Ondo State.
