Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has officially declared that no Igbo candidate will contest the 2027 presidential election against incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, throwing its weight behind his re-election bid.

 

In a bold and strategic move, the group announced that the earliest practical opportunity for a Nigerian president of Igbo descent would come in 2035, not in the forthcoming 2027 polls.

 

This position was revealed in a statement signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo (faction), and Thompson Ohia, the National Spokesman, following a critical meeting with Southeast political stakeholders, including members of Imeobi and Nzukoumunna.

 

“We assert, with unwavering candor and respect, that the goal of achieving an Igbo presidency is indeed realizable and sets forth as a compelling objective for the year 2035,” the group stated.

 

According to the communique, Senator David Umahi, Nigeria’s Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State governor, has been identified as the most viable Igbo candidate for the presidency in 2035, citing his “extensive achievements and broad national appeal.”

Ohanaeze emphasized that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains the most feasible political platform for achieving an Igbo presidency. The group urged Ndigbo to focus on building strategic alliances and mutual trust with other ethnic blocs within the APC to position the Southeast effectively for 2035.
