The recent report from the Investigative Committee on Nigeria’s experience at the Paris 2024 Olympics highlights the critical need for increased accountability among athletes and sports organizations.

Notably, the committee called for Nigerian athletes, such as Favour Ofili, to reflect on their relationships with officials and teammates to foster better collaboration.

The committee also outlined specific recommendations for the Nigeria Cycling Federation, urging cyclist Ese Ukpeseraye to apologize formally for her unauthorized social media post, which caused embarrassment during the Games. Additionally, the report stressed that sports federations should establish anti-doping commissions and ensure written agreements with technical officials to uphold global best practices. The overarching theme of the report emphasizes the shared responsibility among athletes, federations, and government bodies in safeguarding the integrity and reputation of Nigerian sports on the international stage.
