GROUP B 

This group has been termed as the "Group of Death". In the group we have two former champions with the most wins so far in the tournament, and two others that are gradually  building themselves to becoming forces in the round leather game in the continent. But, in summation, the traditional teams will take the shine at the end of the day. However, Box 18 will want to assess the teams, and their chances of winning the AFCON trophy. 

EGYPT (PHARAOHS) 

The Pharaohs of Egypt is the oldest African national football team and has won the African Cup a record seven times.

 In the international stage, Egypt has made three appearances at the World Cup and was the first African and Arab team to make an appearance. Their former goalkeeper Essam El Hadary also holds the record for the oldest player to have played at a World Cup.The first Egyptian national football team was constituted in 1920, the first African football team created to compete in the Summer Olympics in Belgium. The opening match of their campaign was a loss against the Italians. Between 1958 and 1961, the country had a political unity with Syria and went under the name of United Arab Republic, though the Egyptian team's records are attributed to Egypt only by FIFA as it was represented by Egyptian footballers and the team played in the Africa Cup of Nations. The Pharaohs had appeared in three FIFA World Cups and they are the most successful team in the Africa Cup of Nations, winning the competition seven times, with the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations being the most recent one.

The Pharaohs was the first African country to appear at the  World Cup in 1934. They also hold a record of appearing Africa Cup of Nations26 times, from inception in  1957. 

They hold the record of having the best result in the tournament. They were Champions in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008, and 2010

In FIFA ranking, Egypt is Currently ranked 35 as at 21 September 2023. Egypt are favorites to win the 2024 AFCON. They have seven over ten chances of winning the trophy. 

GHANA (BLACK STARS)

The Ghana national team is called the Black Stars. Before 1957, it played as the Gold Coast.

Ghana qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 2006.The team has won the Africa Cup of Nations four times in 1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982. While finishing as runners-up five times (1968, 1970, 1992, 2010, and 2015). They have also qualified for the CHAN four times, finishing as runners-up twice (2009 and 2014).

In current FIFA ranking, they are ranked 60 as at 21 September 2023. Their highest ranking was 14 (April–May 2007, February 2008). 

The Black Stars have been to the World Cup four times with the first being in 2006. Their best results was in 2010 when they played to the quarter -finals.

At the Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana they have appeared 23 times, with the first been in 1963. They won the trophy in the 1963, 1965, 1978, 1982. 

On the possibility of  winning the trophy in Cote'divore, the Black stars have six over ten chances. 

CAPE VARDE ( BLUE SHARKS) 

The Cape Verde national football team  has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup, but has qualified for four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, in 2013, 2015, 2021 and 2023.

Cape Verde became independent from Portugal in 1975. The national team's first international match was a 1–0 defeat to Guinea on 29 May 1978, in a tournament in Guinea-Bissau.The Cape Verdean Football Federation was formed in 1982, and joined FIFA in 1986. 

In FIFA ranking, they are currently ranked 71 as at 21 September 2023. Their highest ranking has been 27 which they attained on February 2014. 

On the ranking for winning the trophy, the are ranked three over ten. 

MOZAMBIQUE (MAMBAS) 

The Mozambique national football  team have never qualified for FIFA World Cup, but they have qualified for four Africa Cup of Nations in 1986, 1996, 1998 and most recently the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola. They were eliminated in the first round in all four.

On FIFA ranking, they are ranked 113  as at 21 September 2023. Their highest ranking ever was 66 which they attained in November 1997. 

On the possibility of winning the AFCON trophy, the Mambas have two over ten  chances.
