Obikwelu Boosts Anambra State Football League With N1M Donation
Barrister JBC Obikwelu, has announced a N1m promise to the Anambra State Football Association, ANSFA, in support of their maiden Anambra State League initiative, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
Obikwelu, who is Chairman of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Disciplinary Committee, spoke at the opening ceremony of the Anambra State Football League at the Awka City Stadium, on Sunday.
The league is being sponsored by Akubudike Energy Limited in conjuction with Akubudike Foundation.
Obikwelu, a former Vice Chairman of the Anambra FA who later assumed office as the state FA Chairman disclosed that he was pleased with the Chikelue Iloenyosi led board of the Anambra State FA.
The Legal Luminarian further hinted that he will support the FA in whatever capacity he can and announced a donation of N1m to the FA to assist in prosecuting the ANSFA/Akubudike State League.
"I'm impressed and appreciative of the laudable program of the Anambra State Football Association under Chikelue Iloenyosi", Barrister Obikwelu began.
"No amount of money from a sponsor can ever completely push through, successfully a competition such as this Anambra State Football League.
"Iloenyosi, I'm happy you're doing well. I appreciate your initiative and will continue to lend my support whenever needed.
"Therefore, I'll support the FA with the sum of one million Naira (N1m) towards the success of this initiative", Obikwelu said.
The fair-skinned retired referee served as ANSFA Vice Chairman during the reign of Chief Mike Umeh as Chairman. He also held similar position during the reign of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah (now late) before holding the leadership forth before the emergence of the present ANSFA Board led by 'Gen' Chikelue Iloenyosi, a former Super Eagles defender.
