Nigerian goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has firmly denied allegations of match fixing that led to his temporary suspension by Singida Black Stars SC, describing the claims as unfounded and a misinterpretation of on-field errors.

In a statement addressed to the club’s management, coaching staff, players, supporters, members of the press and the wider football community, Obasogie said he has never engaged in match fixing and would never compromise the integrity of the sport.

The goalkeeper was suspended following scrutiny over goals conceded during a CAF Confederation Cup clash against Flambeau du Centre FC and a domestic NBC Premier League fixture against Namungo FC.

Obasogie maintained that the goals in question were the result of footballing mistakes rather than deliberate actions.

“I state clearly and unequivocally that I have never engaged in match fixing and will never do so,” he said. “The goals conceded were footballing errors, not deliberate misconduct. I accept full responsibility for my performance; however, mistakes on the field must not be mistaken for match manipulation.”

The shot-stopper, who has represented Nigeria at national level, emphasised his awareness of the grave consequences associated with match fixing, noting that his integrity, reputation and career remain invaluable to him.

He further expressed readiness to appear before any disciplinary panel to defend himself and clear his name.

Obasogie reaffirmed his loyalty to Singida Black Stars, stating that he holds deep respect for the club’s leadership, technical crew, teammates, supporters and sponsors. He added that his focus remains on contributing positively to the team’s ambitions both domestically and in continental competitions.

“I remain loyal, disciplined and determined to continue serving the club with honour and professionalism,” he stated, urging that his performance errors should not be translated into allegations that question his character.

The club is yet to announce the outcome of any formal investigation into the matter.
