Godwin Obaje, the returning striker for Enugu Rangers, has made a strong commitment to continue delivering goals for the Coal City Flying Antelopes in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

Obaje’s pledge follows an impressive performance in a Week 10 match against Nasarawa United on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium (The Cathedral) in Enugu. This was his second appearance for Rangers after returning from Oman about a month ago.

The former FC Ifeanyi Ubah striker marked his return with a standout performance, scoring twice in Rangers’ 2-1 victory over Nasarawa United. His goals secured three crucial points for Rangers in what was a thrilling encounter.

“I’m very happy with today’s game, especially to be the one who scored the goals that brought us the win and the maximum three points,” Obaje said. “I’m even more delighted to have netted twice in my first game of the season for Rangers.”

The 29-year-old forward expressed his desire to keep contributing to the team’s success. “I feel really happy, and I pray I can continue delivering for the team,” Obaje added.

With an extensive career that includes stints at Wikki Tourists, Trech FC in Slovakia, Plateau United, and Abia Warriors, Obaje brings a wealth of experience to the Rangers squad. Ahead of their next fixture against Plateau United on November 10, 2024, he urged fans to expect more from him and the team.

“They should expect more from me, because we are gradually finding our rhythm,” Obaje said. “We’ll approach our next match against Plateau United with the hope of taking something positive from it. Don’t forget, I’ve played for Plateau United before.”

Obaje, who was the NPFL top scorer in 2016 with 18 goals, also praised Nasarawa United for their performance, describing them as a strong side. However, he emphasized Rangers’ resilience in securing the victory.

Following the win, Enugu Rangers moved up to 5th place in the NPFL standings, with 15 points from 10 matches. The team’s next challenge will be against Plateau United in Match Day 11.

Meanwhile, Nasarawa United, with 12 points, are currently in 14th place in the standings and will host Kwara United in the North Central derby this weekend.

Obaje’s brace against Nasarawa United came in the second half, helping Rangers bounce back to winning ways after a difficult run. Reflecting on the match, Obaje said, “Nasarawa United gave us a good fight, but we showed more resolve to secure the win. This victory is a sign that we’re gradually getting into the shape needed for a strong season.”

With the victory, Rangers remain in the hunt for a strong finish this season, and Obaje’s form will be key to their ambitions.
