The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has extended warm congratulations to Sunshine Queens, Castmog Ladies, Ahudiyannem Queens, and Imo Striker Queens on their promotion to the elite NWFL Premiership following a thrilling 2025 Championship season held from September 11 to 21 in Umuahia and Abiriba, Abia State.

 

Sunshine Queens, a seasoned government-backed team from Ondo State, marked a triumphant return to the top tier, while the trio of privately-owned newcomers – Castmog Ladies of Ogun State, Ahudiyannem Queens of Abia State, and Imo Striker Queens of Imo State – made history with their first-ever ascension to the Premiership.

 

In a statement released Monday, NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi praised the clubs’ resilience, quality of play, and dedication, noting their promotion as well-deserved.

 

“We warmly congratulate the four teams on their deserved qualification to the Premiership,” said Shabi. “Their success is a testament to hard work, determination, and commitment to excellence. The NWFL is proud of the quality of football displayed throughout this year’s Championship and we are excited to welcome fresh talents and new clubs into the top division.”

 

The NWFL also celebrated the remarkable contribution of Dr. Robert Daniel Onyeani, Chairman of Ahudiyannem Queens and official sponsor of the 2025 NWFL Championship, whose financial and moral support were key to the tournament’s success.

 

“We owe a special gratitude to Dr. Onyeani for his vision and generosity in sponsoring this Championship,” Shabi said. “His investment has not only elevated his club but also strengthened the entire ecosystem of women’s football in Nigeria. He has set a laudable benchmark for private sector involvement in our game.”

 

Additionally, the NWFL expressed appreciation to the Abia State Football Association, the Abiriba host community, referees, match officials, participating clubs, and fans for their collaborative effort in delivering a vibrant and well-organized tournament.

 

“The unity of purpose displayed by all stakeholders reaffirms our vision to raise the standard of women’s football across Nigeria,” Shabi added. “We deeply value the contributions of everyone who played a part in making this Championship a success.”

 

With the conclusion of the Championship, the NWFL reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its leagues, empowering young female athletes, and upholding the Premiership as a symbol of sporting excellence, integrity, and inclusion.
