NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko Commits to Grassroots Sports Development at FCT Area Council Cup Final

 

Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to grassroots sports development, pledging support for local tournaments and infrastructure upgrades across the country.

 

Dikko made this commitment while attending the finals of the FCT Area Council Cup 1.0 on January 19, 2025, as a special guest alongside Hon. Zaphaniah Jisalo, Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs. The football tournament, held in celebration of local government autonomy, was organized by Bitrus Lawrence Garki, Mandate Secretary of the FCT Area Council Services Secretariat.

 

Describing the event as a huge success, Dikko praised the massive participation of players and fans, emphasizing that the tournament aligns with the NSC’s vision for grassroots and community sports development.

 

As part of the Renewed Hope for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE) program, Dikko announced plans to reconstruct the Apo community field into a modern mini sports center. He highlighted the NSC’s broader strategy of developing similar community-based sports facilities nationwide through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

 

“I congratulate all the winners and participating teams, as well as the organizers, for hosting a successful tournament and bringing the feel-good factor to the community,” Dikko said.

 

The NSC remains committed to supporting grassroots sports and will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to expand opportunities for young talents across Nigeria.
