The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced key fixture adjustments for Matchday 6 to accommodate the continental commitments of four Nigerian clubs participating in the ongoing CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

In a memo signed by Davidson Owumi, the league’s Chief Operating Officer, the NPFL explained that the changes were made to give the affected clubs sufficient preparation time for their international assignments, in line with its goal of supporting Nigerian teams on the continental stage.

• CAF Champions League: Remo Stars, Rivers United

• CAF Confederation Cup: Abia Warriors, Kwara United

• Abia Warriors vs Remo Stars → Now to be played on October 1

• Rivers United vs Niger Tornadoes → Rescheduled to October 1

• Kano Pillars vs Kwara United → Moved to October 8 at the Sani Abacha Stadium

To enhance stadium availability and logistics, the NPFL also announced that two clubs will now play their home fixtures on Saturdays instead of the usual Sundays, starting from Matchday 6:

• Bendel Insurance vs Bayelsa United → Saturday, September 27

• Plateau United vs El-Kanemi Warriors → Saturday, September 27, at the New Jos Road Stadium

All other Matchday 6 fixtures remain unchanged and will proceed as originally scheduled.

“We are committed to ensuring Nigerian clubs competing on the continental stage have the best possible conditions to succeed,” the NPFL stated. “These fixture changes are a strategic move to balance domestic obligations with international ambition.”

The NPFL’s proactive scheduling aims to boost the performance of Nigerian clubs in CAF competitions, as they aim for deep runs and continental glory.
