NPFL 24: Referee Was Threatened, Gave Enyimba Unjust 3 Red, 9 Yellow Cards Against Kwara United - Assistant Coach Cries Out
Yemi Olarenwaju, Assistant Coach of Enyimba FC has cried out that the referee who handled his team's game with Kwara United in a Match Day 27 NPFL encounter was biased.
Emmanuel Ogbole's brace was enough to give Kwara United a win over the People's Elephants, who had their Assistant Coach sent off at the death.
In his post-match thoughts, Olarenwaju alleged that the referee was threatened before the beginning of the second half adding that he was too aggressive to his players.
Olarenwaju, who also red-carded alongside Chigozie Chilekwu and Desmond Ojietefian, said his team is always disciplined and that the red card was the first in his career as a coach.
"The first half was good, he opened the game but in the second half, I think he was threatened. You could see that everybody was all over him. He came in the second half and messed up everything. We got nine yellow cards and three red cards.
"I only asked him a question that the last one he blew wasn't a foul. He gave me a yellow card and I said you can't do this. You had a good game in the first half, why did you change and he gave me another yellow card? That is a red card and gave my player another red card for the third red card. This game is gone. We move to the next one.
"The game was physical and both teams were competing very well. Leave the game open because when you blow this way, you restrict the players from giving their best. Kwara United scored a good goal and we equalised with a good goal too. The two teams were putting effort but the second half.
"We couldn't play, everything was against us. First three minutes he gave three yellow cards to weaken them and shut them up. That's not the best. We have never had a red card this season. Enyimba is a disciplined team. All my career, I have never had a card as a coach. The referee was too aggressive for us. Why do you hand over 9 yellow cards and give Kwara United one or two." (BSN)
