No Nigerian Film for 2026 Oscars, Says Selection Committee

The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has announced that no Nigerian film will be submitted for consideration in the International Feature Film category of the 2026 Academy Awards.

In a statement released on Monday, NOSC chairperson, Stephanie Linus, revealed that a call for entries was opened in August, and six films were submitted for review.

However, following a meeting held over the weekend, the committee voted by majority to make “No Submission,” effectively ending the selection process for this year.

“While Nigerian films have no doubt shown significant improvement and growing awareness of IFF standards, there is still a deficit in creative and technical intentionality that will improve their competitive potential for global awards,” Linus explained.

She confirmed that the decision has been officially communicated to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
