Chairman of the Nigeria National League (NNL), George Aluo, has congratulated the Super Falcons for their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, lauding their resilience and indomitable spirit in the dramatic final against hosts Morocco on Saturday.

The Falcons staged a remarkable comeback after trailing 2-0 at halftime, following first-half goals from Morocco’s Ghizzlane Chebbak and Sanna Mssoudy. The revival began in the 64th minute when Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty to narrow the deficit. Okoronkwo turned provider seven minutes later, setting up Folashade Ijamilusi for the equaliser.

The match reached a fever pitch in the 88th minute as substitute Jennifer Echegini struck the decisive winner, slotting home from Okoronkwo’s exquisite freekick assist, sealing the Falcons’ place in African football history.

In his congratulatory message, Aluo praised the team’s fighting spirit and ability to rise to the occasion.

“I want to thank the Super Falcons for their resilience and the Nigerian spirit which they exhibited in that match,” Aluo stated. “By this victory, they’ve not only shown that they are the best in the continent but that the country is a force to reckon with globally in women’s football — and they deserve our commendation.”

The win reinforces Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football, further cementing the Super Falcons as the most successful team in WAFCON history.
