Chairman of the Nigeria National League (NNL), George Aluo, has lauded Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, for his unwavering commitment to the growth of football and youth development, describing the state as a rising hub for Nigerian football.

Speaking after the successful kick-off of the 2025/2026 NNL season in Lafia, Aluo hailed Governor Sule for his passion and hands-on support for sports in the state.

“Governor Sule has shown that he’s not just a supporter of football but a pillar of sports in Nasarawa,” Aluo said. “He understands that football is a pathway to empower and develop the youth, and we are grateful for his efforts.”

The NNL boss noted that the governor’s recent national award from the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) was well-deserved, reflecting his visible impact on sports development.

Aluo also commended the progress of Nasarawa United, Nasarawa Amazons, and FC Basira, attributing their successes to the governor’s consistent support.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without Governor Sule’s encouragement. He knows that engaging the youth through sports helps combat restiveness and builds a better future for the nation,” Aluo added.

He expressed appreciation to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, and other dignitaries who graced the league opener at the Lafia City Stadium, where home side Basira FC defeated Mighty Jet 3–1.

Aluo hinted that, given the excellent organization and hospitality witnessed, the NNL may return to Nasarawa for the season-ending Super Four, describing the state as a dependable partner in football development.

“We are proud of the great beginning made possible by Governor Sule’s support,” he said. “With leaders like him, the NNL and Nigerian football can only get better.”
