— SIM Registration, Swaps, and Migration Issues Now Telcos’ Responsibility

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has successfully completed the migration of all telecommunications companies to its upgraded NIN verification platform, NINAuth—a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital identity and telecom regulation landscape.

The migration ensures more secure, efficient, and seamless NIN verification, giving telecom subscribers uninterrupted access to services like new SIM registration, SIM swaps, and SIM recovery.

According to Engr. Lanre Yusuf, Director of IT/IDD at NIMC, the NINAuth platform was designed to empower Nigerians with greater control over their personal data while offering enhanced protection and faster verification services.

NIMC reaffirmed that its authentication platforms are fully operational. However, any issues related to new SIMs, SIM swaps, SIM migration, or "Welcome Back" services should now be directed exclusively to the telecom providers, not NIMC.

This migration reflects NIMC’s ongoing commitment to modernize identity services and support a safer, more streamlined digital ecosystem in Nigeria.
