Nigeria Yet to See the Best of Tinubu — Senator Gbenga Daniel
Former Ogun State Governor and Senator, Gbenga Daniel, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as one of the most pragmatic leaders Nigeria has produced and insisting that the country is yet to witness his full potential.
Daniel made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja during a public event marking his 70th birthday, held at the Yar’Adua Centre. Speaking before a distinguished audience, the senator highlighted Tinubu’s influence on his political journey and governance style.
“Tinubu remains one of the most pragmatic human beings that I have ever come across. Nigeria is yet to see the best of him. Mr President is a textbook in governance and creative intelligence that many of us read from,” Daniel said.
He further credited the president with shaping many of the policies and initiatives implemented during his tenure as governor of Ogun State. According to him, Tinubu’s ideas and leadership model played a significant role in the successes recorded by his administration.
“I owe the modest success of our administration to his insight and creative genius. Many governance initiatives we implemented were drawn from his model,” he added.
Beyond personal tributes, Daniel used the occasion to address broader national issues, emphasizing the importance of reliable data and credible information in policymaking. He stressed that effective governance must be rooted in facts, transparency, and accountability.
The senator also spoke on the need to strengthen efforts against corruption, advocating structured mechanisms for the repatriation of illicit funds. He called for ethical leadership guided by the “Omoluabi ethos,” a value system rooted in integrity, responsibility, and moral uprightness.
On the issue of national security, Daniel expressed support for ongoing conversations around state policing. He proposed the establishment of State Police Councils as a way to ensure proper oversight and prevent abuse, while enhancing grassroots security across the country.
The event brought together political associates, stakeholders, and dignitaries who gathered to celebrate Daniel’s milestone birthday, while also reflecting on governance and national development under the current administration.
