The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has officially confirmed that Nigeria will host Uzbekistan in the 2026 Davis Cup World Group II Playoffs, scheduled to take place from February 6–8, 2026.

Team Nigeria booked their spot in the playoffs after a strong showing at the Africa Group III event in Harare, Zimbabwe, where they finished among the top three alongside Namibia and Senegal to secure promotion. The performance underlined Nigeria’s steady growth in international tennis and rekindled hopes of breaking further ground on the global stage.

Uzbekistan, currently ranked No. 49 in the Davis Cup standings and seeded No. 1 in the draw, will arrive as formidable opponents. With years of experience at the highest level and a history of producing top players, they represent a significant challenge for the Nigerian side.

However, the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to rise to the occasion. Federation officials highlighted the blend of youth and experience within the squad, stressing that the home advantage and passionate local support could prove decisive in tipping the balance in Nigeria’s favour.

The playoffs will not only test the mettle of Team Nigeria but also provide an opportunity to showcase the country’s growing tennis culture and its capacity to host major international events. A victory would propel Nigeria further up the Davis Cup ladder and strengthen the nation’s ambitions of establishing itself as a consistent force in global tennis.
