The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially extended the tenure of the current boards overseeing the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL), and Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) until the end of its own administration, set to conclude on September 29, 2026.

 

This decision, announced on Tuesday, ensures that Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye (NPFL), Chief George Aluo (NNL), and His Excellency Silas Ali Agara (NLO) will remain in office beyond the initial two-year mandate, which expired on June 30, 2025.

 

The boards, inaugurated on July 1, 2023, were originally appointed for a two-year term. The NFF cited the commendable performance of the leadership teams in the past two years as the basis for the extension.

 

“The Executive Committee noted the commendable body of work executed by the three boards and expects them to double their efforts in delivering more vibrant, attractive, and commercially viable leagues that meet international standards,” the NFF said in a statement.

 

In its directive, the NFF charged the league boards to continue innovating and introspecting to advance the development of domestic football in Nigeria and across the continent.

 

However, the NFF has held off on making a decision regarding the board of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), led by Ms Nkechi Nneka Obi. That decision, the federation noted, has been deferred to a later date.

 

This move aligns the tenure of the league boards with that of the current NFF leadership under President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), who assumed office on September 30, 2022, and whose term runs until September 29, 2026.
