One of the world’s leading scouting agents and founder of Next Level Scouting, Jouko Gorissen, has expressed strong confidence that Africa—particularly Nigeria—will produce the next global football superstar comparable to Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking at the ongoing Next Level Scouting 2025 event at Turf Arena, Central Business Area, Abuja, on Friday, Gorissen highlighted the immense potential of young Nigerian footballers and the importance of nurturing their talents.

The event, organized in partnership with USYAK Academy, has attracted over 10 international scouts on the ground, with an additional 198 scouts monitoring matches online. With over 300 young players from 16 academies competing, the most promising talents will have opportunities to secure professional contracts in top footballing nations, including Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands.

    “We have 10 scouts on the ground and another 198 watching online. There are 16 teams competing for professional contracts, and opportunities are not limited to Europe alone,” said Gorissen.

    “Clubs from Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, America, Brazil, Egypt, South Africa, and even Australia are watching right now.”

Praising the unique qualities of Nigerian players, Gorissen noted that their high-paced, high-intensity, strong, and technically gifted style makes them highly desirable for top clubs.

    “We’ve already spotted a few players in the first game who seem ready to take the next step.”

He reiterated global studies that predict Africa will produce the next football legend:

    “Studies suggest that the next Messi or Ronaldo will come from Africa. This is what we hope to see here. Our job is to find the right clubs where these players can develop and progress to the next level.”
USYAK Academy Chairman and Team Manager of Niger Tornadoes FC, Usman Alfa, emphasized that scouting is not just about identifying talent but also a financial investment in the football industry.

    “Our goal is to discover talents and generate revenue because football is both a passion and a business. We have 16 academies participating, giving young players a platform to showcase their skills.

    Each team will play two matches, and the best talents will be selected to advance in their football careers.”

With extensive global interest and investment in African football, the Next Level Scouting 2025 event could be a turning point for young Nigerian footballers aiming to make it to the top leagues worldwide.

The event was officially kicked off by the Chairman of the Nigeria National League (NNL), George Aluo, who was the special guest of honor at the opening ceremony.
