New 3SC Boss Sets To Restructure Team : Ogunbote, Dimeji, Others Maybe Affected
The newly appointed chairman of Shooting Stars of Ibadan, Mr Taiwo Lekan Salami has concluded plans to sack some.persons in the team as he settles down for business.
Salami, it will be recalled, was appointed as the new 3SC boss by Governor Seyi Makinde, replacing Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan.
An impeccable source revealed on Tuesday afternoon that the plan to lay off the said staffs of the club had been sealed.
Notable among those to be axed, according to source are the General Manager of the club, Dimeji Lawal, known fondly as Kabongo as well at the technical crew headed by Gbenga Ogunbote, alias Oracle.
It was gathered that Mr Salami, held a meeting with governor Makinde on Monday evening, where he, alongside an accomplice, sold the idea to the governor.
The concerned source however explained the implications on the club should the plan be carried out eventually.
"Coach Ogunbote still has a year left in his contratct and sacking him will mean that the state will have to cough out millions of naira to pay him off. That's a sheer waste of resources.
"Besides, such move will also distrupt the programme already being prosecuted by the officials targeted for sack.
"What this means is that most of the players already on ground may decide to leave with the coach, while those who decide to stay may not be hundred percent loyal and dedicated to the new coach to be hired," warned the source.
It was revealed that plans have been perfected to bring in former Vandrezzer and Enyimba gaffer, Yemi Olanrewaju (Yema), who is currently George Finidi's assistant at Rivers United to replace Ogunbote,"
According to the source, Olanrewaju's name tops the list of coaches being touted for the job, which includes a former player and recently coach of the club.
"These moves could bring setback to the club and one would not be surprised if the club returns to the era of fighting against relegation in the coming season, hence, the need for the governor to disprove such plans," the source added.
Effort to reach out to the Chairman proved abortive as his phone was not reachable despite several call.
