The first edition of the Neo-Black Movement of Africa (NBM) football tournament for the Gwagwalada Zone of the Abuja Region has officially kicked off at Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Gwagwalada.

 

According to the tournament coordinator, Coach Olatunji Meshach Olutimilehin, popularly known as Coach Alomo, the tournament is part of NBM’s efforts to promote unity among its members while also serving as a test run for an upcoming secondary school football competition slated for schools across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

 

The opening round of matches recorded exciting results:

• Gwagwalada Zone 0 – 2 Somalia HT

• Central Sub Zone 4 – 1 Angwan Dodo

• Kuje Sub Zone 1 – 0 Dabi/Bako

 

Coach Alomo emphasized that the tournament goes beyond sports, reflecting NBM’s broader mission of supporting youth development, education, welfare, widows, and the less privileged.

 

“This tournament is a step toward fostering brotherhood, peace, and unity. It also gives us the opportunity to identify young talent and prepare for the major school-based competition we’re planning in the FCT,” he said.

 

The tournament continues in the coming weeks with more teams expected to compete for the top prize.
