Nigerian politician, businessman and billionaire, Senator Ned Nwoko, has disclosed the reasons behind the recent arrest of Ms Izuegbu Anthonet, popularly known as Ann, who is said to be a close friend of his estranged wife and Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels.

 

In a detailed statement released on Monday through his communication team, Nwoko said the arrest was based on serious allegations supported by evidence, insisting that the matter was not driven by personal vendetta.

 

According to the statement, Ann was arrested in connection with alleged criminal defamation following claims she reportedly made accusing Senator Nwoko of physically assaulting his wife, Mrs Laila Nwoko, and causing her to suffer a miscarriage.

 

“Ms Izuegbu Anthonet was arrested in connection with criminally defamatory statements she publicly made, alleging that Senator Ned Munir Nwoko physically assaulted his wife, Mrs Laila Nwoko, causing a miscarriage. Nothing of such happened,” the statement said.

 

More serious allegations were also outlined, with Nwoko’s team accusing Ann of being directly involved in procuring an illegal abortion for Regina Daniels during the period she was still legally married to the senator.

 

The statement alleged that Ann sourced and administered prohibited substances on the actress, resulting in the loss of an unborn child.

 

“Ms Izuegbu Anthonet is also implicated in the procurement of an illegal abortion for Regina Daniels during her lawful marriage to Senator Ned Munir Nwoko. She procured an illegal abortion for Regina, sourced and administered prohibited illegal and contraband substances on her, causing her to bleed for weeks and leading to the loss of his unborn child,” the statement read.

 

Nwoko described the allegations as disturbing and grave, adding that a formal witness statement was submitted to the Maitama Police Station in October 2025 and that investigations are still ongoing.

 

According to the statement, Ann was arrested in Lagos around January 12, 2026, detained for about two nights and later released. The case has reportedly been adjourned until March 5, 2026, for further investigation and proceedings.

 

As of the time of reporting, there has been no public response from Ann or Regina Daniels regarding the allegations.
