President of the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) Ahmadu Musa Kida has enjoyed all Nigerians, including the press to support the game.

Kida made this plea when he led other Board members to a press conference in Abuja on Monday, April 22.

According to him, a lot can be achieved if the Federation gets the needed support in terms of sponsorship from coporate organisation and backing by the government, through the Ministry of Sports.

He recalled how a state government supported the Federation by means of sponsorship of its local league.

"We are asking some of these state governments like Rivers state did last year in hosting the finals of the premier league where they did host NBBF to the pride of the league and also the NBBF. We are encouraging others to do likewise, even if it’s during the conference league."

While urging everyone, including the media to come on board and work for the progress of the game, he noted that the positives should be the focus and not the negative.

According to him, negative comments could impact the activities and participation of potential sponsors, a development that would halt the progress made so far.

"We seem to just banter around the very bad linings and the good linings we just keep and make as if they don’t exist and in doing that, we bring toxicity to the environment where again, people believe or are made to believe that the anything that is not happening is good basketball."

Other Board members present at the meeting are, Vice President,  Babs Ogunade,  Prof. Yakasai Musa Garba, Alhaji Abba Kaka, Okoro Victor, Ugo Udeze and Njoku Peter.
