Nasarawa United continued their impressive push for a continental ticket after grinding out a 1–1 draw against Wikki Tourists FC in a Matchday 24 Nigeria Premier Football League encounter at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, on Sunday evening.

 

The Solid Miners went into the game determined to maintain momentum and were rewarded with another positive result, extending their unbeaten run to four matches against a traditionally tough regional rival.

 

New signing Chimezie Victor announced his arrival in style, silencing the home crowd in the 28th minute with a well-taken goal that put Nasarawa United firmly in control. However, the lead was short-lived as Jonathan Mairiga drew Wikki Tourists level seven minutes later, ensuring both sides went into the break tied at 1–1.

 

The hosts had a golden opportunity to take the lead nine minutes into the second half when they were awarded a penalty, but Ibrahim Shuaibu’s powerful effort rattled the upright, much to the relief of the Nasarawa United defence.

 

Both teams pushed for a winner in an end-to-end contest, creating several chances, but wastefulness in front of goal ensured the scoreline remained unchanged. The high-stakes clash was witnessed by the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, alongside other members of the state delegation.

 

Reacting after the game, Nasarawa United Assistant Coach, Stephen Moga, expressed satisfaction with his team’s display and resilience.

 

“We are thoroughly pleased with the manner in which our charges displayed unyielding fortitude and tactical maturity, thereby securing a hard-earned point against a formidable regional rival, Wikki Tourists, here in Bauchi,” Moga said.

 

“Though our goal was to get the maximum points here, because we have done it in the past, our performance is still worth a pat on the back.

 

“Going four games unbeaten is not a bed of roses, and I strongly believe this result will bolster our resilience and reinforce our relentless aspirations of mounting a serious title and continental challenge.”

 

With the draw, Nasarawa United have closed the gap to just one point behind league leaders Rivers United, who sit on 41 points but have played fewer matches. Wikki Tourists, meanwhile, remain 13th on the table with 28 points from 24 games.

 

The Solid Miners will now return to Lafia, where they are set to host Bayelsa United on Matchday 25 on Sunday, 8 February 2026, at the Lafia City Stadium.
