On Tuesday, October 12, 2024, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), visited the ongoing construction site of the 5-kilometer access road connecting the Saburi 1 and 2 communities to the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) and the old Keffi Road, near Abuja’s Dei-Dei International Market. This inspection underscored the FCT Administration’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

After the site tour, Minister Wike expressed satisfaction with the road’s progress and quality, noting that the contractor is on track to complete the project by December 2024. “The work here shows promising progress,” he said. “We are confident that by the end of the year, this road will bring relief and better living conditions to residents of the area.”

Minister Wike also provided updates on other key infrastructure projects in the FCT, revealing that the procurement process for the Dei-Dei to Life Camp road project is nearly finalized. “We are at about 80 percent in the procurement process,” he explained. “We’re waiting for the Bureau of Public Procurement to issue a Certificate of No Objection. Once approved, we’ll seek Federal Executive Council approval to move forward.”

Discussing the Saburi Road project specifically, Wike highlighted its significance as part of the government’s commitment to fulfilling promises made to improve the quality of life for FCT residents. “When this road is completed, it will make a noticeable difference for the people here. They are already pleased with the progress, and we’re committed to delivering on our promises,” he said.

To address vandalism and protect FCT infrastructure, the Minister announced the formation of a task force comprising various security agencies. This team actively works to reduce criminal activity, targeting scavengers and clearing roads of those posing as beggars who often engage in harmful activities. “We’re seeing results in our efforts to prevent damage. The task force operates nightly to keep the city safe,” Wike reported.

The Minister commended FCT residents for their support and patience, assuring them that the dividends of democracy would benefit every area of the capital. “People are beginning to see the impact of our Renewed Hope Agenda, and while we ask for patience, I am encouraged by the positive responses from residents,” he added.
